The end of the 2019/20 Premier League season is looming,
and it’s not looking good for Norwich City! Whilst relegation is not yet
mathematically confirmed, the Canaries are rock bottom of the table – where
they have been since Boxing Day – seven points adrift from safety, and with not
much hope of clawing back the gap – according to the Premier
League relegation betting odds.
The Canaries’ manager, Daniel Farke, admitted after their
1-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion, last weekend, that the players missed
chance’ to try and save themselves from the drop, and that he
wanted them to be ‘devastated.’
However, along with relegation from England’s top-flight comes the risk of losing your best players! Norwich, who spent just a mere £8m – including loan fees – last summer, have built their team around academy graduates, but could now lose some of those regular first-teamers due to the drop!
1. Todd Cantwell
Todd Cantwell looked in dismay as he sat on the pitch, starring down at the grass after Saturday’s defeat to the Seagulls. The 22-year-old broke in Norwich’s first team back in 2018, and is already one of the Canaries’ best players. The midfielder has played in all 33 of his team’s Premier League games this season, and has scored six goals – making him Norwich’s second-top scorer this term, behind striker Teemu Pukki. The promising midfielder has caught the eye of some of the Premier League’s biggest sides, and has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.
2. Ben Godfrey
There is no doubt that Ben Godfrey has endured a tough first season in the Premier League, however, his solid performances haven’t gone unnoticed! The young centre back, who only became a regular for Norwich last season, has been linked with Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal, whilst Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have also thrown their names in the mix recently too. The 22-year-old, who has a £25m price-tag, has made 25 appearances for the Canaries this season, showing his ability, and leadership, by captaining Norwich, and England’s Under 21’s.
3. Jamal Lewis
It could be another blow at the back for Norwich City, as full-back Jamal Lewis has been linked with a move to a Liverpool. The 22-year-old left-back was a key player in helping Norwich climb back up to the Premier League, last season, whilst he has impressed some of the biggest clubs in the country during his 23 outings this term. Lewis especially got chins wagging with a stunning strike against Leicester City – which was nominated for February’s Premier League Goal of the Month. The youngster also has senior international experience having played for Northern Ireland 12 times.
4. Max Aarons
In fact, the Canaries could lose three of their back four
with promising right-back Max Aarons consistently linked
with Spurs. The 20-year-old, who now has a reported £3om price-tag,
swapped Luton Town’s youth ranks for Norwich’s in 2016, before breaking into
the starting 11 just last season. Aarons instantly became one of the first
names on the team sheet, playing in 41 of the Canaries 46 Championship games
last term, whilst his classy performances landed him the EFL Young Player of
the Year award! And, he has carried on regularly making the squad this season,
missing just two of Norwich’s Premier League games to date!
