Betting companies sponsoring football shirts has been outlawed in Spain, effective from the start of next season in La Liga.
Valencia, Alavés, Leganés, Granada, Mallorca, Sevilla, Osasuna and Levante will all need to find new main shirt sponsors next campaign, following new regulations from Spanish minister of consumer affairs Alberto Garzón.
But, going beyond just the front of a team’s jersey, betting firms will no longer be allowed to sponsor stadium names or any other aspect of a football club either.
Gambling sponsorship and advertising are contentious issues in Europe right now, with the issue of betting sponsorship in football also being considered in the UK.
In Germany, meanwhile, unions have agreed a self-regulated limit for online casino advertising time on TV, in the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
