Heidenheim vs Werder Bremen Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

  • Heidenheim have won only three of their last seven fixtures.
  • Both teams have scored in only three of Heidenheim’s last nine fixtures.
  • Six of Werder Bremen’s eight league wins this season have been by single-goal margins.

Heidenheim aim to shut out Werder Bremen

Heidenheim’s Bundesliga 2 campaign was built around a solid defence and that was clear to see in their 0-0 draw with Werder Bremen in the first leg of their relegation playoff.

The second-tier side managed to keep a clean sheet against Bremen but failed to direct a single shot on target themselves, suggesting their hopes of moving up to the Bundesliga could depend on solid defensive work and nicking a goal at the other end.

In Bundesliga 2 this season they conceded only 36 goals in their 34 league assignments – only champions Arminia Bielefeld had a better defensive record.

But their lack of potency in the final third could cost them in this contest – they have drawn blanks in three of their last four matches and they look short of goals beyond top scorer Tim Kleindienst.

They have won only two of their last six assignments and could be edged by a Werder Bremen side looking to preserve their 39-year stay in the German top flight.

Bremen’s road record could give them the edge

Bremen have been markedly better on the road than at the Weserstadion this term.

Their 6-1 demolition of Cologne on the final day of the regular season was only their second win at home in the league in 2019/20 – their other coming against Augsburg back in September.

In contrast, they managed six wins on their travels in the Bundesliga this campaign, having claimed the scalps of Freiburg, Schalke and Paderborn since the restart.

Werder Bremen have been used to high-intensity fixtures of late, having been battling for survival until their final game, and they should have enough in their locker to take maximum points.

They thrashed Heidenheim 4-1 in the second round of the DFB-Pokal earlier in the season but this is expected to be a much tighter affair with so much on the line, so while punters should opt for a Bremen win in terms of their match prediction, it could be worth going for a low-scorer when it comes to the correct score prediction.

Goals may be in short supply in Heidenheim

Both teams have scored in only 14 of Heidenheim’s 34 league matches this season and their defensive solidity is reflected by their division-high 15 clean sheets – one more than Bielefeld.

In fit-again Milot Rashica, Bremen always have a danger in the final third but they have not been scoring goals for fun this season and three of their last five wins have been by 1-0 margins. That could be the scoreline to go for in this crunch clash in Baden-Württemberg.
