Konami Suspends & Cancels Multiple Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Events

Konami issued a statement today letting fans know of several more changes happening to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game 2020 set of events. Unfortunately, none of it is good news as three of the biggest events they would have held this year are officially on the shelf. The company had already canceled several events for the year and was proposing an online competition moving forward in the form of Remote Duel, but this morning they revealed that the big Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series (YCS) and the WCQ – National Championships have both been canceled. Both of these events are major highlights for the season and usually draw some of the biggest crowds in the world to compete in them. You can read the company’s full statement below as we wait to see what will happen moving forward.

As we monitor developments related to the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to take seriously the guidelines and recommendations put forth by government health authorities and experts. In keeping with those guidelines and in recognizing our own responsibility to prioritize the health and safety of our entire Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG community, we are making the following changes to our 2020 events schedule:

Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series (YCS)

  • YCS Minneapolis (originally Aug 22-23) is canceled.

WCQ – National Championships

  • All nationals (originally postponed) are canceled.

Organized Play and Promotional Events

  • All OP and events postponed indefinitely, until further notice.

We are aware of the steps that communities across the nation have taken to gradually reopen; however, with the increase in daily COVID-19 cases occurring around the U.S., we want to prioritize the safety and well-being of our communities. As circumstances evolve throughout the coming weeks, we will periodically provide future updates relating to the status of local Organized Play and promotional events, as we review government health authority guidelines. Please continue to visit our official Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG website and official social media channels on Twitter and Facebook for the latest news and updates
