NHL Playoffs Series Prices

NHL Playoffs Series Prices

When the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered the NHL in mid-March, it appeared the remainder of the season would be lost and we wouldn’t have any action until the fall. Well, as the curve starts to flatten, the NHL and the NHLPA have come to an agreement for an expanded 24-team playoff – with 12 squads from each conference – to be hosted by two hub cities to finally crown a 2020 Stanley Cup champion.

The top four teams from the Eastern and Western conferences based on winning percentage will get byes into the first round, though they will play among themselves to get their legs under them and determine seedings. The teams ranked 5-12 in each conference will face off in shortened best-of-five play-in series to advance into the first round.

Online sportsbook Bovada has released series prices for each of the 5-12 matchups which are listed below.

  • The Penguins should get a big boost with top-line winger Jake Guentzel returning to the lineup from what appeared to be a season-ending shoulder injury.
  • Watch out for Montreal goalie Carey Price. The Habs won five of seven games following the all-star break and he had a .943 save percentage over that span. So this time off may do wonders for him.

  • The stoppage in play may come as a positive for the Rangers as they had given up a total of 29 goals over their previous seven games so the rest may help their young goalies.
  • Carolina had three defensemen, Brett Pesce, Dougie Hamilton and Sami Vatanen, get placed on the IR during the stop in play. Although Hamilton and Vatanen should be good to go, keep an eye on how they perform coming off injuries.

  • Calgary was just getting healthy with 2019 Norris Trophy winner Mark Giordano returning for the final six games and fellow defenseman Travis Hamonic, who had been out since early February, was close to returning and will be good to go now.
  • Winnipeg had been on a four-game winning streak before the pandemic. Bryan Little scored the OT winner vs Calgary in October but has been out with a season-ending ear injury since early November. Could he return and boost the strength down the middle for this squad?
