The Christiana Stakes from Delaware Park Betting Preview – Saturday, July 4, 2020

Race 6 on Delaware’s Saturday afternoon card is the $50K Christiana Stakes with nine competitors going to post. The three year old fillies take to the turf over a mile and a sixteenth and another high class contest is expected to take place in Wilmington.

American Giant

Michael Trombetta’s charge recorded her best lifetime beyer when finishing a close ninth in the Ginger Brew Stakes at Gulfstream Park back in January. She also looked impressive in the Juvenile Fillies Turf Stakes in November 2019, cruising home by two lengths. She is tackling the Delaware turf for the first time, and it’s her first crack at the distance. She is stretching out today, having previously competed over seven and a half furlongs.

Embossed has had four starts in 2020 and was successful over this trip at Tampa Bay at the beginning of the calendar year. Although only two of her career starts have been on the grass, she’s looked well suited to this surface, and this contest should be much easier than her previous assignments.

Ron Pott’s charge made a terrific start to life on the turf, using the rail to good effect in a 25K claimer. She’s in a tough spot here, but she’s a potential improver.

Pure Rhythm

Michael Stidham’s three year old commanded a fee of $125K and has improved with every single appearance. Although she’s only just out of maiden’s, she won by an eye-catching 11 lengths at Tampa Bay. Although she has decent all-round pace, she is likely to be held up and arrive with a late challenge.

Miss Imperfection

Miss Imperfection is making her debut on the turf today, and will be hoping to make an impact on her Delaware debut. There are a few too many question marks and she may be best watched.

Trickle In

Michael Stidham’s charge is one of the least experienced campaigners in the field, although she’s made a bright start to life. She’s already landed a 50K OC at Fair Grounds and wasn’t disgraced in the Shantel Lanerie Memorial Overnight Stakes last time out. With a top turf beyer of 77, she’s right in the mix here. She may also provide the early pace in this contest.

Duchess of Sussex

Graham Motion’s barn have enjoyed a profitable few weeks in stakes races, and they’ve got another decent contender in Duchess of Sussex. She came a respectable fourth in the 75K OC, although she was less impressive at Churchill Downs last time out. She should be up with the pace, however, stretching out for the first time, her stamina will be tested this weekend.

Kiss the Girl

Steven Asmussen’s charge is tackling the turf for the first time. She has been heavily beaten on her last two starts, although this is a slightly easier spot. With no notable turf workouts to speak of, this could be tough.

Although she is yet to compete at this track, Arnaud Delacour’s charge was pitched into the Grade III Florida Oaks earlier this year. She finished a respectable sixth of twelfth and was three and a quarter lengths behind the winner. That is superb form and she is one to keep an eye on.

Correctness’ form in the Florida Derby catches the eye and having shown enough over this extended trip, she could be hard to beat. Pure Rhythm is a potential improved and is clearly heading in the right direction and may finish close behind.
