The Oceanport Centennial Stakes from Monmouth Park Betting Preview – Friday, July 3, 2020

The Oceanport Centennial Stakes from Monmouth Park Betting Preview – Friday, July 3, 2020

The July 3 six-race opening day card at Monmouth Park will be headlined by the Oceanport Centennial Stakes.

The $75,000 event for three-year-olds and upward will cover a short distance of five furlongs.

The field of eight older horses will be led by names like Awesome Anywhere.

Here is a look at the field for the Oceanport Centennial Stakes.

Awesome Anywhere

Coming out of Florida, Awesome Anywhere is owned by All Schlaich Stables, Hollendorfer, Team Green, and George Todaro.

Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, the 6-year-old gelding son of Awesome of Course has a career record of 7-2-5 from 18 starts. His earnings are sitting at $187,766.

Awesome Anywhere dominated a starter allowance race at Oaklawn Park two starts back on March 3. He received a 112 Speed Figure for the performance.

His last race was a seventh place effort in a March 29 allowance optional claiming race, and he also finished second in a Feb. 8 starter allowance race, both at Oaklawn as well.

Awesome Anywhere’s speed will be heard to beat, and he will break from post 6 under jockey Paco Lopez.

Dr. Feelgood, Chateau

Another runner coming into the Oceanport Centennial is Dr. Feelgood from West Virginia. The 5-year-old gelding from Fiber Sonde is owned by Jill Daniel and trained by Crystal Pickett.

Out of his 12 career starts, Dr. Feelgood has 10 victories and one second-place finish, with earnings of $214,645.

In his last performance, he took the June 6 It’s Only Money Stakes at Charles Town. Before that, he finished first in an allowance race on May 21 and first in another allowance race back on Nov. 29, both at the same track.

The problem with Dr. Feelgood is that he has yet to run at another track, so it might prove difficult for him to keep up with the others.

The Kentucky-bred Chateau is owned by Michael Dubb and trained by Rob Atras.

The 5-year-old gelding from Flat Out has a career record of 5-7-6 from 25 starts and earnings of $270,449.

He scored a March 6 allowance optional claiming race at Aqueduct, where he registered a 107 Speed Figure. He also finished third in another on Feb. 9 and second on Dec. 28, both at Aqueduct.

Dr. Feelgood will break from post 5 under Jorge Vargas, Jr., and Chateau from post 4 under Hector Rafael Diaz, Jr. in the Oceanport Centennial Stakes at Monmouth Park.
